An Oakville man is facing fraud charges in connection with a scam involving promises of employment.

“We do believe there are others he may have targeted,” said Halton police Det.-Sgt. Joe Barr.
A complaint came in on July 12 regarding a 2014 incident.
The suspect and victim – who is from Burlington – met through a religious group.

The suspect claimed to be a Toronto Police officer and allegedly told the victim he’d get him a job with the service in exchange for a fee.
Money was paid and the suspect gave “various excuses for the delays and the lack of an employment offer,” say police.
Detectives believe the suspect has also tried scamming more people by offering jobs at places such as the Ford Motor Company.
Investigators are encouraging victims to come forward and reminding residents to be “extremely cautious” with promises of advantage in any employment situation and that legitimate job opportunities will never involve the exchange of money.
Jagjit Singh, 51, is charged with fraud over $5,000 and personating a peace officer.
He’s scheduled to appear at the Milton courthouse on Aug. 16.
