With access to more than 100 movies, organizers believe film lovers will find this year’s Oakville Festival of Film and Arts the “most impressive” yet.

The virtual screenings for the week-long festival will be available to Canadians digitally from June 23 to June 29

and promises something for everyone from comedies and romance to thrillers, Sci-Fi and horror films.

A total of 18 feature-length films and documentaries in the lineup, as well as 87 shorts from diverse genres including Canada (55), Turkey, USA, Germany, UK, France, Iran, Chin, Brazil and Italy.

Getting things rolling on June 23 is the Local Short Film Fest. Done in partnership with Sheridan College Alumni, the first of the three mini short film fest features films from locally-developed talent.

Shorts in Quarantine, a selection of International COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown films, will begin at 5 p.m. on June 28 and the Animation Shorts Showcase is third and is set for 5 p.m. on June 29.

Also on tap is the Oakville Festival Premier of the movie, Marlene. Inspired by the true story of Marlene Truscott, the movie tells the story of a housewife who fought to exonerate her husband, Steven Truscott, from a crime he didn’t commit.

The Prime-time launch also will see the regional premiere of the critically-acclaimed dystopian fantasy, Nine Days, as well as the Canadian premiere of the French Sc-Fi/thriller Meander.

This year’s festival also falls on Canadian Multiculturalism Day on Sunday, June 27, which also happens to be OFFA’s Women Who Give Event for 2021. OFFA will be offering a special day pass and an all-access pass.

Both passes include a donation to Zonta International, an organization that “envisions a world in which women’s rights are recognized as human rights and every woman can achieve her full potential.”

The Women Who Give Event for 2021 will showcase women’s stories from around the world in a variety of languages (with subtitles) from France, Syrian Arab Republic, Germany and more.

Single tickets for the festival are $12.99, while all-access passes go for $135, 10-ticket packages for $90 and five-ticket packages are $50.
