An Oakville company has received top honours for having the best workplace culture in Canada.

At the recent Annual Canadian HR Awards, Pethealth Inc. received the award based on its approach and commitment to building workplace culture and was evaluated on its values, traditions, beliefs, behaviours, and attitudes, among other criteria.

This is the seventh year the awards have been held which honour the human resource practices of companies across the country.

Pethealth is provider of medical insurance for dogs and cats as well as selling shelter management software, microchips and lost pet recovery services in North America.

“We are honoured to be regarded as having one of the best workplace cultures in Canada,” said Nelia Rutledge, senior vice president, human resources at Pethealth. “At the highest levels of leadership, we prioritize culture, ensuring our people are central to everything we do. To grow our business, we believe cultivating the right environment for employees permeates throughout their interactions with our customers, our partners, and our communities.”

HR award winners were selected by a panel of industry experts and announced in a live virtual broadcast. Pethealth Inc. was also a finalist in two other award categories: The KPMG in Canada Award for HR Champion (CEO) and Canadian HR Team of the Year (under 500).

Sean Smith, president and CEO of Pethealth Inc. said organizational culture is fostered by all individuals nurturing, contributing and, ultimately, buying-in.

“It was so clear from the start that we have a caring team, passionate about what we do,” said Smith. “Investing and building on that was the single most important thing we achieved in making Pethealth a successful organization for our team, our customers, their pets, our partners and our shareholders. We have so much more work to do and are excited to continue onward and upward.”
