Back in January of this year, inhalton.com reported that a new brewery had opened in the town of Halton Hills – Furnace Room Brewery.

The brewery, which is located at 1 Elgin St., in Georgetown., officially opened on Dec. 14, 2018. However, the brewery was actually first established in 2007.

Furnace Room Brewery originally started back in 2007 in the basement of a home, as its name suggests, next to a furnace when long-time friends Jeff Sandifer and Mike Glockner decided to brew a simple extract beer kit.

From here, their story just kept on escalating.

After transforming their furnace rooms into nano-breweries, the two started producing ten-gallon all-grain batches of beer. The word about their beer quickly started spreading and people began asking where they could get more.

However, the encouragement for Sandifer and Glockner to open their own brewery didn’t come until 2014 when two of their beers were entered into a beer competition. Their beers won first and second place.

After finances were secured, plans for the Georgetown brewery commenced.

And despite opening back in December, the brewery recently celebrated its grand opening on May 25, 2019.

However, before officially opening, last year the brewery completed a large construction and façade refurbishment project, according to a recent press release.

The project was funded in part by the town of Halton Hills’ Community Improvement Plan (CIP).

“The grant provided by the town is greatly appreciated,” Glockner said in a statement. “We are proud of how this improvement to the building has fit into the neighbourhood and surrounding area. We are grateful to have worked with Town to achieve this outcome.”

According to the release, project elements included replacing siding and windows, new exterior lighting, an interlocking side with landscaping that leads to an accessible ramp and front door, as well as signage.

“The company’s investment in the exterior of the building exceeded $125,000,” notes the release.

The brewery consists of a modern retail store, and a processing plant for four signature craft beers, according to the release.
