The Town is developing its first culture plan and needs public input.

Once developed, the plan will guide direction for investment in culture across Milton as well as demonstrate a commitment to the unique characteristics of the community and its residents.

“As Milton grows, culture will tie our community together and create a shared experience for our residents and visitors,” said Joy Anderson, Milton’s Director of Culture and Community Development. “Through its storytelling and recognition of our past and present, the plan will envision a path forward for Milton’s cultural identity that is reflective of our community.”

Part of the planning process is to identify existing cultural offerings within Milton and to ultimately develop a framework for promoting and integrating new and different cultural experiences. The Town wants to understand what makes Milton unique and acknowledge the barriers to enjoying culture. As well, input is wanted on what residents feel is missing in Milton and what opportunities should be explored.

In Phase One of the culture plan, the Town is asking Milton residents and visitors about their cultural experiences, feedback and ideas. In addition to understanding culture more broadly in Milton, the plan will also seek to understand how the community has shifted their experience and/or work in culture as a result of COVID-19.

Individuals can contribute in a number of ways including an online survey, virtual drop-in events, and artist-led culture conversations at pop-ups in the community. All events have been set up in accordance with COVID-19 health and safety guidelines. By following the link milton.ca/cultureconvos you can access the various ways of providing your views.

Phase Two and Three of the culture planning process will occur later this fall and through winter with the goal of completion in winter 2021.
