The town of Milton has announced an exciting initiative that will help get residents involved in the community’s growth.

As noted in a recent press release, ‘We Make Milton’ – a community engagement initiative to encourage residents, businesses and stakeholders to get involved in the new official plan project – was launched on Tuesday, June 25, 2019.

“We Make Milton uses innovative community engagement practices to reach the community,” reads the release. “Twelve fictional characters, the Milton family and their family and friends, have been created based on local demographics and interests to inspire the community to share their input throughout the multi-year project.”

“Through the We Make Milton engagement process, the new official plan’s modern land-use vision and framework will be crafted locally, in partnership with the community,” Barb Koopmans, Milton’s Commissioner of Planning and Development, said in a statement. “The new official plan will support the development of a complete community and manage Milton’s growth for the next 20 years.”

According to Councillor Mike Cluett, the town’s current official plan, which was approved in 1997, is more than 20 years old.

With that being said, the new official plan will consist of contemporary, strategic and forward-looking planning policies that will provide direction for significant urban growth, welcome a young, educated and diverse population, facilitate active and healthy lifestyles, and protect what is valued and further civic pride

The first round of community engagement, regarding We Make Milton, kicks off today (July 2, 2019) and will be open all summer and fall.
