The community of Acton is growing.

Here’s why.

According to a recent press release, Halton Hills Industrial Park is currently being developed by Futura Properties Ltd. – a B.C. based, private, family owned and operated real estate business.

The company is currently working on a 55-acre industrial park in Halton Hills, Acton to be exact.

This industrial park is quickly becoming the economic hub of the community following the addition of the Ontario Building Materials Division of CanWel Building Materials Group Ltd.

This company is the first tenant to take occupancy at the site currently known as 340 Main Street North and becoming Futura Drive in the Halton Hills Industrial Park.

CanWel has already created employment opportunities in the Acton area; currently employing about 100 people in peak season.

CanWel is an international wholesale distributor of building materials and products.

A few of their customers include Rona, Lowes, Home Depot, Home Hardware, and Castle Building Supplies.

“We have been very pleased to make Halton Hills the home for our business expansion into Ontario,” Rob Doman, Vice President and Director at the Vancouver-based Futura Properties Ltd., said in a recent press release.

“The community and the Town’s ‘open for business’ approach has been very welcoming, and we were able to meet our clients’ needs. We are experiencing significant interest in the next phase of our project and anticipate seeing continued economic spinoff benefits for Acton and throughout Halton Hills from this $30 million project. We appreciate the support of the Town and all of the support we have received in the community.”

Phase one of the park includes a new connection to the Trans Canada rail network, road, power, fibre optic telecommunications, water, sanitary and stormwater infrastructure, dedicated protected lands for conservation, and the creation of the CanWel site.

The $30-million estimated value of this new industrial park makes this development the largest investment Acton has seen in decades.

“Our role is not just to attract investment but also to work to ensure that all areas of the Town benefit from the ripple effects of new development,” Halton Hills Mayor Rick Bonnette said in a recent press release.

“This new development is the beginning of what I anticipate to be an infusion of consumer spending in Acton, in both the downtown and the wider area, given the many employees who will ultimately be working in the Halton Hills Industrial Park.”

New developments are typically good for local businesses.

All of the steel for the CanWel site was provided by Ontario suppliers and the engineering component was completed in the Greater Toronto Area.

Futura Properties Ltd., the property developer, has spent millions on contracts for site servicing, excavation, concrete, aggregate supply and surveying with numerous local companies.
