While it doesn’t appear restaurants will be offering dine-in options any time soon, the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) has announced licensed restaurants will be permitted to sell

While it doesn’t appear restaurants will be offering dine-in options any time soon, the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) has announced licensed restaurants will be permitted to sell alcohol with take out and delivery orders.

Effective immediately, all licensed restaurants will be permitted to sell alcohol with takeout and delivery orders between 9 a.m. and 11 p.m. Further, All active liquor licensees may immediately begin offering this service if they choose–there will be no application process or fee required.

Moreover, the holder of the liquor license will be responsible for ensuring the delivery person meets all the requirements to serve alcohol–including having their Smart Serve training.

Additionally, the AGCO is permitting grocery stores to liquor retailers to begin selling alcohol at 7 a.m. to support early shopping programs for vulnerable people and to provide greater flexibility to retail stores.

As well, the AGCO is extending all valid liquor, gaming and cannabis licences by three additional months at no additional cost.

“Everyone at the AGCO is concerned for the individuals, families, businesses and communities affected by this virus,” Jean Major, registrar and CEO for the AGCO, said in a news release.

“We are working closely with the Government of Ontario to find ways of supporting Ontarians and the sectors we regulate during these challenging times,” he continued.
