LATEST: Here’s What’s Happening with the Snowstorm in Halton

If you have to commute home, you should note that the drive might take longer than usual, as the GTA is still being pummelled by a major winter storm.

Environment Canada says a winter storm warning is still in effect for Halton and Peel (Mississauga, Brampton, Caledon, Oakville, Burlington, Milton and Halton Hills).

With total snow and ice pellet amounts expected to hit close to 15 cm, the storm–which also includes freezing rain and strong winds–will continue tonight.

Environment Canada says the current mix of precipitation is expected to transition back to snow this evening.

An additional 5 cm of snow is expected tonight.

Thankfully, the weather agency says the wind has eased somewhat across the region, however strong easterly winds gusting near 70 km/h continue closer to the Lake Ontario shore.

While visibility has improved, blowing snow is likely tonight. The snow is expected to taper to flurries on Wednesday.

This weather is associated with a Colorado Low that will cross Southern Ontario tonight into Wednesday.

Residents are asked to consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic in urban areas.

If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance.
