Whether you’ll be walking, cycling, or riding transit, plans for the future of transportation in Burlington are being made, and city staff are looking for feedback to develop a draft transportation
Whether you’ll be walking, cycling, or riding transit, plans for the future of transportation in Burlington are being made, and city staff are looking for feedback to develop a draft transportation plan.
“Burlington is going to continue to grow over the next 20 years and we need to start thinking about how will we will get around our city in the future,” said director of transportation Vito Tolone.
“The city no longer has the space to accommodate growth by widening roadways, and the financial cost to maintain a larger network is significant.”
An estimated 193,000 people are expected to call Burlington home by 2031, and the city is looking to fully align land use and transportation.
Open houses are being held on Wednesday, June 14 and Tuesday, June 20.

Meetings will include a brief presentation about the directions for a new transportation plan dubbed ‘Go Bold,’ followed by discussion groups.
The plan is slated to go before city council in early 2018.

Wednesday, June 14
7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Tuesday, June 20
7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The Lions Club, 471 Pearl St.
Online options – such as a survey and workbook – are available if you can’t make it.
Staff will also be setting up at community events over the summer to gather feedback. Details can be found here.
IN A NUTSHELL
- The building blocks for the new transportation plan will be formed around eight new directions which provide:
- A wide range of options for getting around regardless of age, means or ability, including walking, cycling, public transit and automobiles
- Compact modes of travel, like buses, bicycles and walking to efficiently move a larger number of people
- Well-connected transportation systems in surrounding regions
- Fast, reliable and more frequent transit
- Improved facilities and safety for cyclists and pedestrians.
- The directions for Burlington’s transportation plan are aligned with the city’s draft new Official Plan.
