Here’s Why Eight Milton Residents are Being Recognized

Now, eight more Miltonians will be recognized amongst the town.

Now, eight more Miltonians will be recognized amongst the town.
The town along with the Milton Historical Society recently announced that eight prominent Miltonians will be added to the Town’s Walk of Fame during an induction ceremony.

This ceremony will take place at Town Hall on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2019, 2 p.m.
The following individuals, according to a recent press release from the town, will be added:
• Kayla Alexander, Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) basketball player
• Scott Hogarth, 11-time World Martial Arts Champion
• Matt O’Meara, former Canadian Football League (CFL) offensive lineman
• Matt Sewell, former Canadian Football League (CFL) offensive lineman
• Arthur Henry Fleming (posthumous), international industrialist and philanthropist
• Oscar Ernest Fleming (posthumous), co-founder, St. Lawrence Seaway
• George Sherwood Hume (posthumous), internationally-renowned geologist
• Bert Wasmund, international leader, metallurgical plant engineering and design
“It is with a great sense of pride and honour that I welcome this latest group of high-achieving Miltonians into the Walk of Fame, individuals who have achieved a great deal on a national and/or international stage,” Mayor Gord Krantz said in the release,
“I look forward to meeting them and their families at the induction ceremony and escorting them into Milton’s Walk of Fame.”
Currently, there are 53 members in the town’s Walk of Fame.
In order to be inducted into the Milton Walk of Fame, according to the release, the following criteria has to be met:
• Nominee must be born in the town or spent formative or creative years here.
• Nominee must have lived in the community for a minimum of ten years.
• Nominee’s accomplishments must be national and/or international in scope.
• Nominee’s achievement must be best-in-class in his/her best-in-class field of endeavour and extended for minimum two calendar year period.
• Nominee’s achievement must fit into the following fields: athletics, arts and entertainment, business and industry, government and public service and health and science.
