As most people are probably aware, Lakeshore Road in Oakville is currently undergoing a massive reconstruction project. Oakville’s Lakeshore Road Reconstruction and Streetscape Project officially commenced back in April of this year. This project, as noted in a previous inhalton article, is part of the town’s $20 million investment to revitalize its downtown area.

The completed reconstruction project, as mentioned in the previous article, will include enhanced roadways, tree-lined boulevards, beautified streets, and improved pedestrian and cycleways, increasing accessibility, mobility, and connectivity.

But, that’s not all.

“The flexible design will facilitate access for special events and festivals,” reads a previous press release from the town. “A two-metre marking zone in front of each storefront will enable restaurants and retailers to use street space as part of their downtown presence. In addition, new traditional streetscape furnishings (streetlights, benches, bike rings and bollards) will maintain the character of the main street.”

In addition, smart city elements, such as public Wi-Fi, people counters, electric charging stations, and more, will be integrated into the project.

This project will be completed in two phases over a two-year period.

And something very exciting is happening to keep people shopping downtown during the project.

To support local businesses during the current Lakeshore Road revitalization project, Visit Oakville – a non-profit destination marketing organization that is partially funded by the town – is running a contest where the prize is a $100 gift card.

“As Oakville’s tourism body, we want to help local businesses succeed during this period of reconstruction,” Philippa Durbin, Visit Oakville Board Chair, said. “Downtown Oakville is hosting incredible events and these local retailers are putting out amazing products, so we created the contest as a way to encourage people to explore and support this beautifully historic part of town.”

So, how can you participate in the contest?

According to Visit Oakville, all you have to do is find one of their ambassadors (pictured below) under the Visit Oakville tent in Towne Square (94 George St.) during visiting hours (Saturday and Sunday from 12 until 5 p.m.) and tell them you want to enter.

Those who are wanting to participate should note that this contest is currently only being extended to Visit Oakville newsletter subscribers. However, according to Visit Oakville, the contest will be open to the public about halfway through the month.

Entries will be accepted from August 3 until August 25, and the winner will be notified by September 9.

Will you be entering this contest?
