It’s no secret that the Halton Region is growing. Over the last several years the region has welcomed an abundance of new businesses, buildings, and of course people. But when it comes to population growth, just how many people will be living in the region in a number of years?

Well, according to a recent press release from the region, Halton is one of the fastest-growing communities in the country and is anticipated to reach one million people by 2041.

And in order to prepare for growth, and a sustainable future, the region undertakes comprehensive planning, and works closely with partners and develops policies that support informed land-use decisions.

However, that’s not all that’s being done. According to the release, certain areas within the region’s official plan are currently under review.

“Our current Regional Official Plan provides a clear vision for Halton’s physical landscape while maintaining community character and sustainability,” reads the release. “It sets out goals and objectives that reflect resident needs and preserves the quality of life that we collectively value. These include how and when communities may grow, natural heritage preservation, employment land opportunities and where vital infrastructure such as roads, water and wastewater systems are needed.”

According to the release, the following areas of the official plan are being reviewed: rural and agricultural systems, the natural heritage system, climate change adaptation and mitigation, and growth management and urban systems.
