Although it may be too cold to think about bicycling anywhere anytime soon, cycling is still expected to be a big part of Halton Hills’ future.

Although it may be too cold to think about bicycling anywhere anytime soon, cycling is still expected to be a big part of Halton Hills’ future.

Back in 2010, according to a press release, Halton Hills adopted its Cycling Master Plan and has since made annual investments to make cycling safer and more appealing. The town has added eight kilometres of bike lanes, 11.24 kilometres of multi-use paths, and even installed new cycling directional signage.

Now, an event is coming up where the conversation surrounding the future of cycling will continue.

The town’s Bike It Committee (a committee formed in 2012 in order to further the Cycling Master Plan through promotion and by hosting a series of cycling events) is hosting its first Cycling Summit on March 6, 2019 – the goal is to get residents together to discuss a cycling vision for Halton Hills and strategies to achieve the vision.

Although the Bike It Committee already has been successful over the last couple of years, with the summit, the committee is hoping to take things even further.

“The Halton Hills Bike It Committee has been very successful over the past six years offering a popular series of bike events to encourage participation,” Jane Fogal, cycling advocate and Committee Chair Councillor, said in a press release. “Now we want to take it to the next level but we need more community input and support.”

Fogal continued, “Anyone who enjoys cycling whether for recreation or transportation and sees the value in improving cycling infrastructure or who would like to see new programs and initiatives in Halton Hills should attend.”

This summit will be held at 6:30 p.m. at MoldMasters Sportsplex – Alcott Hall.

Residents can also provide input by using the town’s online engagement platform: letstalkhaltonhills.ca. The release notes that residents should visit the site and provide ideas on how cycling opportunities can be improved and the areas of focus that the town should concentrate on.
