The Town of Halton Hills will be hosting their annual Earth Day celebrations this month.

While celebrations will look different this year due to COVID-19, there are still several ways that the community can celebrate the 51st anniversary of Earth Day together.

“There are many ways we can recognize Earth Week and the importance of preserving Halton Hills’ natural assets,” said Mayor Bonnette.

“I encourage everyone to visit the Town’s website and learn about our many programs and initiatives to reduce our community carbon footprint and address climate change.”

From April 20 to 30, 2021, a new online platform for purchasing trees will be available.

The Town will offer a selection of 10 native tree species for purchase to Halton Hills residents only and each sapling will come in a 2-3 gallon pot at a cost of $5 each. There will be a limit of five trees per person.

The new online platform will also allow for donations to local food banks.

Residents will be able to select a pick-up date between May 3 and 7, 2021, depending on Provincial restrictions due to COVID-19 and will be able to collect their trees from the Robert C. Austin Operations Centre located at 11620 Trafalgar Rd. in Georgetown.

Residents are reminded that Public Health guidelines will remain in place during pick-up.

Trees can be purchased at earthdaytreesale.ca.

Residents can also participate in a variety of Earth Week-themed activities, access resources or learn more about Town initiatives including the 20th Annual Robert C. Austin Operation’s Centre Tree Sales, Conservation Halton Virtual Workshops, Credit Valley Conservation webinars, Retrofit Halton Hills survey, Low Carbon Transition Strategy, a climate change exhibit at Helson Gallery, Earth Week with Halton Hills Public Library and downloadable family activities.
