The Town of Halton Hills has recently announced funding for their local arts community through a commissioning program that supports new community-engaged artwork.

The program, called “The Artist Next Door,” is returning for a second year and is allowing eligible artists living or working in Halton Hills to apply for funding.

The funding could be up to $1,000 plus HST where applicable, for projects in any artistic discipline.

The program is available to individual artists, artist teams or collectives, cultural businesses and arts and cultural groups or organizations.

Last year, this stream of financial support was established for the arts and culture community as part of the Town of Halton Hills’ COVID-19 response.

“The success of this program has been two-fold,” said Mayor Rick Bonnette.

“Our local artists have displayed exceptional creativity and resourcefulness in engaging the residents of Halton Hills, fostering connection, and building community throughout the pandemic. Equally important, The Artist Next Door program provides financial support for our local artists in what has been a very challenging year for the cultural sector.”

Those interested in applying should incorporate a component of public engagement, community building, place-making or accessible project design in their proposal.
