Guess What Oakville Just Spent $90K On?

A staff recommendation has been made.

And town council has approved it.

The Town of Oakville is hosting the 2018 Canada Day celebration at Bronte Heritage Waterfront Park.

The price tag for taxpayers: $90,200.

“Marking our nation’s birthday with a spectacular fireworks show continues to be an important family tradition in Oakville,” said Mayor Rob Burton.

“Residents look forward to this celebration, and we’re very pleased to be able to offer it again this summer.”

The annual celebration has been held in Bronte since 1964.

This year’s July 1 festivities will feature small-scale activities and entertainment and a focus on the fireworks display.

The Bronte BIA has previously been the lead organizer of the event, with the town providing support in the form of fee waivers, grants and in-kind contribution.

During the 2018 budget process though, the BIA’s board of directors announced it would no longer deliver the event without more funding.

Staff will report on the future of its event support as part of the 2019 budget process.

Do you agree with the Town of Oakville’s decision?
