A GoFundMe page has been set up by the boyfriend of an Oakville nurse who recently passed away as a result of a suicide.

Stefanie Van Nguyen was a Registered Nurse for Oncology and General Medicine at Halton Healthcare as well as an Occupational Health Nurse at Humber River Hospital.

According to the donation page, set up by Jason Parreno, Van Nguyen was dedicated to her work and loved and cared for her patients and coworkers.

“She was the most caring, loving, genuine, bubbly person you could ever have met. She always tried to take care of her family and friends when she was able to and always loved with no restraint,” wrote Parreno on the page.

“We as a collective can help take some burden off of her family. Hopefully, these donations can help cover expenses of the funeral, memorial service and anything else that can help her mom and dad. I will personally be helping them distribute all of your contributions to ensure that Stefanie’s family can get through this very difficult time.”

Parreno concluded by including a link to the Canada Suicide Prevention Service.

“If you know someone dealing with depression or even just feeling sad, overwhelmed and stressed, please talk to someone, call your loved ones or seek professional help.”

Halton Healthcare also extended their sympathy for Van Nguyen’s family in a heartfelt Facebook post.

“Today the flags at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital will fly at half-mast until sunset tomorrow to honour the life of Stefanie Van Nguyen,” read the Facebook post from Jan. 25.

“She was an amazing nurse whose vibrant presence lit up any room she entered. We extend our deepest sympathy to her family, friends and colleagues at both Halton Healthcare and Humber River Hospital during this difficult time.”

Since the donation page was set up, it has raised over $65,000 for Van Nguyen’s family.
