A Georgetown resident is celebrating after winning a prize worth $1 million from the June 15, 2021, Lotto Max draw.

Jessica Gowan, a 45-year-old animal lover and outdoor enthusiast, told OLG she’s not a regular lottery player and that it was her brother that reminded her to buy a ticket for the $70 million draw.

“A coworker said to me, ‘Watch, you’ll be the one who wins because you play so infrequently!'”

Gowan checked her ticket using the OLG Lottery App the following day.

“I thought ‘wow, that’s a lot of zeroes!’ I couldn’t wait to have my brother take a second look,” she told OLG. “My brother scanned the ticket and then looked at me and said, ‘Are you going to retire?'”

According to OLG, Gowan has a few bucket list vacations planned; one being the rocky mountain train trip from British Columbia.

“It’s crazy – it still doesn’t feel real. I have enjoyed thinking about all the possibilities. When I dreamed of winning before I won, my plans were totally different from the reality!”

The winning ticket was purchased at Circle K on Mountainview Road in Georgetown.
