Five Georgetown Youths Facing Charges in Street Robbery

Five young offenders from Georgetown are facing charges following a targeted street robbery allegedly linked to drugs.
The incident took place shortly before midnight on May 26.

That’s when Halton police responded to the area of Barber Dr. and Danby Rd. in Georgetown after concerned citizens reported a group of youths walking through the neighbourhood carrying baseballs bats and talking about attacking someone.

Patrol officers were dispatched and reports came in about a male youth who was being beaten by the group on a path behind a residential area.
During the assault the suspects didn’t use the baseball bats but punched the victim several times, say police, causing minor injuries.
The suspects stole the victim’s backpack before fleeing.
As police arrived, two youths were immediately arrested.
The 1 District criminal investigation bureau took over and later identified and arrested three more youths who are allegedly responsible for the robbery.
The investigation revealed all parties were known to each other, say police, alleging the robbery was about the sale of marijuana.
The suspects’ -whose names are protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act- are facing charges for robbery and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
They were all released from custody and will appear in court later this month.
