The first phase of a new east-west road route in north Oakville opens tomorrow (Nov. 22).

William Halton Parkway E. will run from Sixth Line to Ninth Line parallel to Highway 407, for distance of about two kilometres.

The road has been designed to accommodate motorists, pedestrians and cyclists and will also now provide a quick and convenient route for emergency vehicles.

Highlights include four lanes between Sixth Line and Trafalgar Rd. with the rest being two lanes between Trafalgar and Ninth Line. As well, the bike lanes will be part of the road allowing for pedestrians to use the adjacent paths and walkways.

Other unique features include two roundabouts along the route to keep traffic flowing, but lights will control the intersection at Trafalgar.

The second phase is expected to completed by next spring.
