And it’s honouring a legendary Canadian.

Oakville residents have a unique opportunity to showcase their own memorabilia celebrating Terry Fox.

The exhibit, Terry Fox – Running to the Heart of Canada, will be displayed at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex from April 12 to Sept. 9.

Developed by the Canadian Museum of History in partnership with Terry Fox’s family, it features maps, photographs, and newspaper imagery telling the story of the Marathon of Hope which began on April 12, 1980 when Terry started his grueling cross-country run to raise money for cancer research.

“Terry Fox is a symbol of courage and hope for Canadians across the country. His unwavering passion and determination continues to inspire and motivate us,” said Mayor Rob Burton.

“We’re very excited to share his courageous story and honour his legacy.”

The town is inviting residents to contribute their own Terry Fox memorabilia to accompany the exhibit such as photos, cards, letters and memories of meeting Terry or being part of the annual Terry Fox Run.

Residents can make submissions by contacting Tonia Di Risio at [email protected] or 905-845-6601 ext. 4614.

The submission deadline is March 23 and all contributions will be returned when the exhibit closes in September.
