Electronic device drive will help young cancer patients stay connected

A Burlington MPP is spearheading a drive to collect electronic devices for children undergoing cancer treatment to help them stay connected.
A Burlington MPP is spearheading a drive to collect electronic devices for children undergoing cancer treatment to help them stay connected.
MPP Jane McKenna is joining forces with the Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) and the Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario (POGO) in the six-week campaign that begins today and runs to Nov. 6.
Accepted items include: Laptops, computers, monitors, printers, cell phones, tablets, and IT peripherals.
Items collected will be refurbished by the ERA and donated on behalf of POGO to children fighting childhood cancer.

The intention of this program is to provide the children with functional devices so they can continue their education, stay connected with loved ones, and keep themselves entertained.
“Every day six children in Canada are diagnosed with cancer,” said McKenna. “While childhood cancers account for less than one percent of all cancers diagnosed, it takes a significant toll on families. I am pleased to work with the Electronic Recycling Association and the Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario to collect electronic devices that once refurbished will be distributed to children undergoing cancer treatments and their families.”

The ERA is a non-profit organization dedicated to reducing unnecessary electronic waste. POGO is comprised of oncologists who champion the cause of childhood cancer care.
