A driver participating in a birthday drive-by parade this afternoon in Oakville has been charged.
At 3:38 p.m., Cst. Marc Taraso reported that the driver in question allegedly drove 50 km/h over the speed limit and ran a red light in order to catch up with the parade in a residential area.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, some residents have started doing drive-by parades to celebrate events while still practicing social distancing.
“Birthday drive-by parades are permitted; driving 50+ over the limit and blowing a red light to catch up in a residential neighbourhood is NOT okay,” Taraso said.
The driver has been charged with racing, stunt driving, speeding, and running a red light.
Additionally, the driver’s licence was suspended and truck impounded for seven days.
