DNA Evidence Used to Make Arrest After Vehicles Stolen in Oakville and Brampton

A police investigation into vehicle thefts has led to the arrest of one person.

On Friday, February 22, Halton police responded to a report of a stolen vehicle at a residence on Sheddon Avenue in Oakville.

“Several days later, a member of the public noticed an abandoned vehicle in the same area,” police say. “Officers responded again and located a vehicle stolen from the City of Brampton.”

The Forensic Identification Bureau examined the second vehicle and seized DNA evidence, which the Center of Forensic Science confirmed belonged to Alex Payne, a 26 year old Toronto man.

Police arrested Payne on Sunday, April 14. He is charged with theft of a motor vehicle and possession of property obtained by crime.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with further information is asked to call police at 905-825-4747 ext. 2278.
