Bad news for anyone in Oakville sick of the construction on Lakeshore Road–it’s going to be continuing for a while.

Phase 1 of the project–between Navy Street and Dunn Street–was supposed to be finished by this past November. However, after it became clear it wouldn’t be completed in time, it was postponed in order to prevent any disruption to the Santa Claus Parade.

According to the Town of Oakville’s website, the project will include: “The installation of new gas lines by Union Gas, replacement of wastewater and drinking water pipes by Halton Region, new electrical conduits, new communication infrastructure, and silva cell installations to ensure healthy trees.”

As a result of a deadline that may have been too ambitious, some aspects of phase 1 still have yet to be finished, and will have to be completed before phase 2, which was scheduled to begin in 2020, commences.

Phase 2 will involve the area of Lakeshore between Dunn and Allen Street–which will include the very busy intersection Trafalgar Road and Lakeshore.

Many business owners in the area have voiced their frustration with the project, claiming it has already had a negative impact on their sales. They’re urging the city to keep Trafalgar and Lakeshore open as often as possible.

The entire project is scheduled to be completed by September 2020. However, with delays already causing setbacks–it remains to be seen whether this will be possible.
