While not mandated by a governing body, Metro publishes all positive in-store COVID-19 cases in Ontario and Quebec on its corporate website.

“In each case of a positive test, the store was deep cleaned to ensure the health and safety of employees and customers,” said Stephanie Bonk, Metro Communications Manager.

Bonk added that Metro will soon be introducing a COVID-19 screening program for all of its in-store employees. Upon arrival, employees will undergo a series of tests implemented in partnership with Quebec-based medical services company, Biron.

Metro employees were also notified this week that on top of the face shields already supplied, all employees will be given reusable face masks, according to the company.

Metro says is also in the process of installing plexiglass behind each cash station to compliment the plexiglass already installed directly between the cashiers and customers.

As a retailer, franchisor, distributor, and manufacturer, Metro operates or services a network of some 950 food stores under several banners including Metro, Metro Plus, Super C and Food Basics, as well as of some 650 drugstores primarily under the Jean Coutu, Brunet, Metro Pharmacy and Drug Basics banners.
