Are you ready to file your taxes in Mississauga? Tax season is quickly approaching and it’s almost time to get your T4s, receipts, and other important tax documents in order — and there’s no time to slack this year.

According to H&R Block, this year’s window to file taxes is the shortest in electronic tax filing history.

Instead of opening e-filing services in mid-February, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) will open on Monday February 26, 2018. For the early tax-filers, no returns can be filed before that date.

The CRA is, of course, still encouraging Canadians to file early.

“Filing early ensures your benefit and credit payments are not delayed or stopped,” says the CRA online. “If you have a spouse or common-law partner, they should also file a return early.”

From then, Canadians will have just nine weeks to file their taxes as opposed to the 11 weeks we usually have.

That said, the deadline to obtain and sort out tax documents remains Monday April 30, 2018.

Those who are self-employed do have more leeway, with a deadline of Friday June 15, 2018.

This year, the federal government is implementing something new for paper tax filers. Now, if you file your taxes on paper, the CRA will mail you your forms and guides directly.

According to the CRA, more than 90 per cent of Candians already file and pay their taxes on time — hopefully, starting tax season a little later this year won’t make too much of a difference.

Get those documents together!
