Milton is hosting events on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day that all residents are welcome to attend.

The annual New Year’s Eve bell ringing is happening on Tuesday, December 31 at Victoria Park.

Mayor Gord Krantz will be in attendance as will bell-ringer Margaret Saliba, currently involved in the Townsend Smith Foundation to bring a hospice to North Halton.

The bell ringing will be happening at 11:45 p.m.

Then, on New Year’s Day, the Council-hosted New Year’s Day Levee is happening from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Milton Town Hall, where residents can discuss important events planned for 2020 over refreshments.

The annual tradition dates back to 1646 when the governor of New France hosted the event to wish residents a happy New Year and inform them of the important events for the upcoming year.

“Both of these events give us the opportunity to reflect on the past year and look toward the future in 2020,” Krantz said in a news release.

“This long-standing tradition brings the Milton community together to celebrate the successes of 2019 and beyond,” he continued.
