This hip Italian bar-slash-gastropub is one of the newest along Brant St., taking over the former Eatalia spot. I found this place while strolling downtown … the stunning aesthetic caught my eye so I went in to find out more, quickly realizing it’s Burlington’s best-kept burger secret. Just order The Burger and wait for it to arrive. Take in the glorious horseshoe-shaped bar and industrial light fixtures and wooden chairs with colourful legs. Try not to drool over the food or decor. Decked out between a bun with black-and-white sesame seeds you’ll find a thick grilled patty made in-house, like everything on the curated menu. It’s wrapped in prosciutto and drowned in melted Gorgonzola and served with frites and house-made ketchup, which tastes so healthy it feels as if I’m eating clean for just a split second. A few bites in, I had to put The Burger down and just nod at it to convey appreciation and respect. The friendly owner, Jerod, and staff work hard to provide a stellar experience. Chase the Spaghetti Carbonara – featuring pasta made in-house, plus double-smoked bacon, garlic, arugula, and parmesan – with suds … they’ve got craft beer on beer on beer on beer — nearly 100 varieties. Cheers!

Hand-spun gourmet pizzas are served atop red and white checkered nylon tablecloths at this old-style cafe in the city’s north end along Kingsridge Dr. Sports jerseys dominate the decor, making it a great neighbourhood hangout if you want to watch the soccer game locally with fellow footie fans. The space offers tables and booths. When the server arrived with a stand yielding a pepperoni pizza, it was so greasy it reminded me of a date I went on with a guy in New York City. With a perfect super-thin crust and great blend of herbs, Peppino’s pizza is straight up awesome.
Price for a large pepperoni: $15.99
Kerr Street Cafe and sister company Brothers’ Coffee Roasters (their Notorious espresso blend is fire!) are known for being on point. They plate their meals beautifully and even offer bike racks out front. Their famous all-day breakfast includes French Toast, Chia Pudding, and Pancakes (with rosemary custard, local fruit, bee pollen, creme fraiche). There’s also an enormous slice of Healthy Toast, served on sourdough with hummus, alfalfa sprouts, cucumbers, etc. It’s equal parts superb and super-filling. Lunch offers up salads, the Burger Queen, a fish burrito, and a smoked chicken and brie sandwich. This Kerr Village staple, featuring a cafe and restaurant, has such a relaxing atmosphere (with plenty of natural light) it’s second only to a day at the spa. Or a day trip to New York City, because it feels like I’m at a posh cafe near Columbia University. The resto is serving dinner and all I have to say is, it’s about time! If you haven’t been, what are you waiting for?
It’s classy and cool, yet cozy. The Martini House offers “distinctly different dining.” Complete with gourmet, chef-made menu items, the abundant supply of libations begs one to quiet the mind and focus on tasting the sweet and sour sensations on your SO’s lips. Or you can just swipe their cotton candy. The relaxing atmosphere on Elizabeth St. is the perfect place to unwind after a long week … even if your relaxing begins at 11 p.m. (it’s open until 1 a.m. during the week, which is way past my bedtime but that’s neither here nor there). With drinks like the Blue Cactus (SKYY Vodka, Blue Curacao, Malibu Rum, sour lime, pineapple juice) and the Golden Rod (SKYY Vodka, Tequila, Grand Marnier, lime cordial), a few martinis in and I’ll be saying “whatever floats your boat, boo.”
Price for mains: $18-$40.

This is authentic Chinese dining. The prices here are on the higher side, but if you have one meal here, you’ll instantly know why. The service here is absolutely top quality, and the decor is just as impressive! Servers are dressed in very traditional Chinese attire which really helps to create a novel dining experience. The presentation of the food here is fantastic, and more importantly for most, the flavour is also noteworthy! With an LLBO as well, Cynthia’s really is one of the premier Chinese restaurants you will find in Oakville.
