This relaxed, refined cafe at Oakville Place is always full. Wood-fired pizza, pasta, and brunch faves such as Eggs Benedict are on the menu. The colour scheme is gorgeous — pink and purple curtains separate the dining area from semi-private party rooms. Aisles are wide and offer plenty of space for young stroller-pushing moms. A popular – and interesting item – on the menu is the Turkey Burger, with avocado, chipotle, and an onion ring. It’s served with a delicious side of skinny sweet potato fries. Millennials, there’s also Avocado Toast with hummus, vine-ripened tomato, crispy shallots, and the option to add crispy bacon for an extra $2.

Wings are well done at this popular pub — EddieO’s nailed the delicate balance of a crispy coating with tender meat on the inside. Their wings are as addictive as they come, served with a great Jager BBQ sauce. The pub’s industrial aesthetic, complete with exposed beams, has large, comfy booths which are multi-staggered for optimum privacy (so y’all can lick your fingers in peace!)
I’ve got a love jones for the hand-stretched pizza bread and Tavolo’s savoury snacks. Fig Pizza sounds appealing and it doesn’t disappoint … with fig and balsamic chutney, sweet onion, sharp cheddar, prosciutto, and fior di latte, it was hard to share this pizza because in reality I could’ve easily polished it off solo. Same goes for the Zucchini Bruschetta, which is right up my alley. It has diced yellow and green zucchini, red onion, goat cheese, and fresh basil on a toasted garlic crostini. Yum!
Anyplace that serves light, yummy food (made from scratch) right up until last call is a winner in my eyes. The menu is 100 per cent gluten-free, making this downtown Brant St. resto a popular spot. I ordered three tacos: Spicy Brussels Sprout, Chipotle Sweet Potato, and Fish. The sweet potato taco was my favourite, with an awesome crunchy coating. I almost ate the whole thing in two bites. The Chorizo and Cotija Nachos are for sharing, though. All pickled items are made in-house, and their flavour combos are kind of rad. Great service, too.
The Mye restaurant brand is the best sushi in town and the original Mye is located in the heart of beautiful downtown Oakville near Lakeshore and Trafalgar. It’s located in what looks like an old house and they have modernized it by partitioning the dining room off with glass. We had the exact same seven course-tasting menu as we had at Mye 2 with just one difference at the original Mye. There was a crab claw in our sunomono salad, which Mye 2 didn’t have. The location of this Mye restaurant with the combination of the fresh crab claw makes it just an inch better than Mye 2!
