A 24-year-old Burlington man is seriously injured after jumping from a moving car and Halton police are asking witnesses to come forward.

The incident took place downtown on Aug. 21 between midnight and 3 a.m.

Two Burlington men were walking to a vehicle parked on Ontario St., just west of Brant St., when one of the men, 24, started an altercation with three unknown men near City Hall.

After the altercation was quickly broken up, the pair continued to their car and began to drive either west on Ontario St. toward Maple Ave., or possibly south on Locus St. toward Elgin.

Shortly after the car began to drive away the 24-year-old man – who started the squabble –  jumped out of the passenger side of the four-door black Nissan, hitting his head on the road.

He was knocked unconscious.

The driver “and the three men involved in the earlier altercation placed the injured man back into the car so he could be driven to Joseph Brant Hospital,” say police.

He remains in hospital with a serious head injury.

The incident was reported to police on Aug. 26.

Investigators would like to speak with the three men who helped the injured man into the 4-door black Nissan, plus any witnesses that may have observed the incident or any businesses that may have captured the incident on security cameras.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Det.-Const. Chris Heffernan of the collision reconstruction unit at 905-825-4747 ext. 5420 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
