When it comes to getting the jab, Oakville, Burlington and Milton seniors are on board

Seniors in Oakville, Burlington and Milton are getting it done when it comes to getting their COVID-19 vaccinations.
An impressive 88 per cent of seniors 80 and over are now vaccinated with at least one dose according to data updated Friday by Halton Region.
A total of 356,779 doses have been handed out in Halton Region since the beginning of the vaccination drive, with 30,349 administered to seniors 80 and over.
Sixty-seven per cent of the Halton population, or 365,661 people, have received at least one shot. Of all the Halton residents to get vaccinated, just 0.07 per cent had an adverse event after immunization, with 96 per cent of these considered non-serious.
“A whopping 88 per cent of 80+ year olds in Halton are now vaccinated with at least first dose,” Burlington Mayor Marianne Meed Ward said on Twitter. “Well done!”
Seniors in the other two age groups are also on a good pace. Between the ages of 70 to 79, a total of 41,345 have been administered a dose, while 54,016 of seniors aged 60 to 69 have been vaccinated.

All this comes on the heels of the province announcing earlier this week they were accelerating the rollout of the second dose to give Halton residents 80 and over the option to reschedule their second previously booked second appointments at a shortened interval.
“This is a positive step towards safe reopening as we see restrictions being loosened in places where vaccination rates are high,” Oakville Mayor Rob Burton wrote about the high vaccination rates in his weekly newsletter.
Other vaccinations numbers for age groups include 50 to 59 (67,144), 40 to 49 (62,813) and 18 to 39 (91,712). The youngest group, ages 12 to 17, has been given 9,380 doses since recently getting the clearance from health officials to get vaccinated.
