Two youths from Hamilton have been arrested after allegedly fleeing from police in Burlington.

Halton police allege that just before 9 a.m. on Sept. 24, officers received a complaint about a possible impaired driver in a Nissan SUV in the area of Headon Forest Drive. 

Police say that residents observed several youths driving the vehicle which had a flat tire. 

The SUV was shortly located by the police.

Police say that, as an officer was approaching the stopped vehicle to investigate, the male driver accelerated away, resulting in the officer to having to jump to the side.  

The officer was uninjured. 

Police then attempted to pull over the SUV, resulting in a low speed chase over a short distance.

Two youths were shortly arrested by police after the SUV hit a curb and stopped. 

Police allege that the investigation revealed that the Nissan SUV was stolen from Guelph earlier that morning.

According to the police, a 17-year-old male from the City of Hamilton who cannot be identified due to his age was held for a bail hearing and will appear next in Milton Youth Court on Sept. 5, 2018. He’s facing a number of changes, including posession of property obtained by crime (over $5,000), dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight while being pursued by a peace officer and more. 

According to the police, a 15-year-old female from Hamilton was held for a bail hearing and will appear in court on Sept. 25. She has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and two counts of failing to comply with recogizance. 

A number of additional vehicle thefts–and property stolen from vehicles–that have happened in Burlington are being investigated, police say.

Burlington residents are being urged by police to not leave spare keys or valuable items in their vehicles. 

Suspicious activity should be reported to police immediately.
