Special winter weather statement in effect for parts of Halton

A special weather statement is currently in effect for parts of Halton including Burlington and Oakville.

Environment Canada issued the winter weather travel advisory this morning at 5:35 a.m.

A lake effect snow band from western Lake Ontario will develop very early this morning and persist into late this morning.

Accumulating snow and low visibility at times will affect the morning commute for some areas between Grimsby and Oakville.

The weather agency says that total local snowfall amounts of 5 to 10 cm are possible under the snow band.

Motorists are advised to leave extra time for their morning commute and prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions.

Halton police are also reminding drivers to slow down and prepare for conditions to change.
