Opening of new beds expected to reduce backlogs at Burlington’s Brant Hospital

Forty new hospital beds at Joseph Brant Hospital will become operational to help reduce surgical backlogs and improve access to care during the pandemic.

The beds will be allowed to open as a result of $4.6 million in funding announced by the Provincial government for hospital care. The funds are part of a broader $116.5 million investment across Ontario for hospital services.

“I’m pleased the Ontario Government is providing $4.6 million to Joseph Brant Hospital for up to 40 hospital beds and four critical care beds to increase access during COVID-19,” said Effie Triantafilopoulos, MPP for Oakville-North Burlington. “This investment is a key part of our Fall Preparedness Plan to help ensure our local hospitals are prepared for the second wave of COVID.”

Eric Vandewall, President and CEO of Joseph Brant Hospital, said he was pleased with the amount of funds that will be coming to Burlington. He said the additional beds will provide necessary resources needed during the pandemic and flu season to provide quality care to local residents.
