Oakville girl dies in horseback riding incident

Investigators are trying to determine the cause of death of a 14-year-old Oakville girl who died while horseback riding in Hamilton.

Investigators are trying to determine the cause of death of a 14-year-old Oakville girl who died while horseback riding in Hamilton.

Police say the girl and her mother were riding in the area of Milgrove Side Rd. and Highway 5 yesterday, shortly before 5:30 p.m.

According to Hamilton police, the experienced riders were on a path not familiar to them when the horse ridden by the girl became trapped in a marshy bog. She was able to dismount the horse and while waiting for help, became submerged and a short time later was pulled from the marsh without vital signs.

The girl was transported to the hospital however, she succumbed to her injuries.

The identity of the rider is not being released.
