No free day parking in downtown Burlington this December

There won’t be free parking during the day in downtown Burlington this holiday season.
Burlington City Council has decided to suspend the Free P! program this year at the request of the Burlington Downtown Businesses Association (BDBA).
Parking will still be free after 6 p.m. and on weekends and holidays, as it is year-round.
Free parking downtown in December has been an ongoing program for several years, however, surveys and analysis by the BDBA indicate Free P! is no longer achieving its intended goal of encouraging shoppers, instead, people are taking up the spots by leaving their vehicles parked for long periods during the day.
The move means that anyone parking downtown during weekdays will have a three-hour maximum paid parking limit designed to get people to eventually move their vehicles and free up spots for other customers coming into the area.
The City is calling the move a “pause” and may introduce the free parking again in the future.
