Burlington MPP Jane McKenna recently announced that the provincial government has installed two new variable message signs on the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) to notify drivers when the Burlington Canal Lift Bridge is up.

“Many of us know the experience of exiting the QEW to avoid a traffic incident or slowdown on the Skyway only to discover the Lift Bridge is up,” said McKenna in a Facebook video.

“That’s why I’ve been working with the Ministry of Transportation since August 2019 to develop an automated solution that will keep drivers informed in real-time, on the status of the Burlington Canal Lift Bridge.”

The signs, located on the right side of the QEW just before the highway exits, will operate 24/7 and provide information in English and French.

Toronto bound, drivers will notice the sign just before the off-ramp for Eastport Drive and Niagara bound, drivers will notice the sign on the collector lanes just before the exit to Eastport Drive.
