A mother and daughter duo from Halton are celebrating a massive lotto win.

OLG recently announced that saying “yes” to Encore paid off for Catherine Farnington of Oakville and Jacqueline Farnington of Burlington, as the pair matched all seven Encore numbers in the exact order in the March 31, 2020 Lotto Max draw to win $1 million.

Catherine, 58, discovered the win on the way to visit her mother, 89-year-old Jacqueline.

“I called my mother and told her I would be there by 6 p.m., and that I was going to stop and check the ticket,” she told OLG.

“The ‘Big Winner’ message popped up and the clerk started jumping up and down! I had no idea how much I won!”

Catherine told OLG she couldn’t wait to get to her mom’s house and share the good news.

“My leg was shaking the whole drive and when I got there, I told her to sit down. I showed my mom the validation slip and she said, ‘Boy, that’s a lot of zeros!’”

It was Jacqueline that convinced her daughter to add Encore to her tickets.

“When I realized we won $1 million dollars, I felt like a kid on the first day of school,” Catherine told OLG.

OLG says Catherine is going to settle into retirement, while Jacqueline is contemplating a new car.

“And maybe a chauffeur to go along with it,” she joked.

“Winning something like this is a big responsibility. You want to make sure you do the right thing.”

The winning ticket was purchased at Becker’s on Upper Middle Road in Burlington.

OLG is now accepting in-person prize claims by-appointment-only for customers with prizes of $1,000 or more who wish to claim at the OLG Prize Centre.
