Select regions in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and Winnipeg will be eligible for same-day grocery delivery through Instacart, a North American leader in online groceries.

The service is available in the GTA today, followed by Winnipeg on September 27 as part of a pilot program between the two companies.

Online grocery orders from Walmart Canada can now be delivered same-day by Instacart to customers’ homes in as fast as one hour in the GTA and Winnipeg. Walmart Canada currently offers next-day delivery and grocery pickup in many areas of the GTA. This is Walmart’s first grocery delivery service in Winnipeg, after the company already introduced Walmart Grocery Pickup in all Winnipeg stores earlier this year. Rollout to additional markets will be based on customer engagement and adoption of the platform.

“Canadian families are busy, and saving time is as important as saving money,” said Lee Tappenden, President and CEO, Walmart Canada. “By teaming up with Instacart, we’re providing our customers with express home delivery of fresh, quality groceries at Walmart’s low prices every day in as little as an hour.”

With this new offering, residents of Toronto and Winnipeg have greater access to Walmart’s fresh groceries available at low prices every day. Customers can download the Instacart app or visit instacart.ca to find their local Walmart Supercentre and place their order.

Instacart personal shoppers will shop on the customer’s behalf for Walmart’s fresh selection of groceries, including fresh fruits and vegetables, 100% Canadian AAA Angus beef, pork, chicken and a variety of seafood, dairy, baked goods, deli, frozen foods, as well as health and beauty products, household supplies, pet food, baby food, diapers, and much more. Items selected will then be delivered directly to customers’ doors in as fast as an hour or at a later date and time that’s convenient for them.

“As demand for online grocery shopping continues to grow in Canada, we’re excited to now offer same-day grocery delivery to Walmart Canada customers,” said Nilam Ganenthiran, Chief Business Officer at Instacart. “This landmark pilot program marks the first time Instacart has collaborated with Walmart Canada, and we’re proud to now serve Walmart Canada’s many families in select Toronto and Winnipeg areas.”
