The province says that 640 new COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in Ontario and that over 700 residents have died of the virus.

The province says that 640 new COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in Ontario and that over 700 residents have died of the virus. While case numbers are increasing, it does not appear that the rate of hospitalizations is increasing at this time.

Models recently released by the province also suggested that Ontario has reached its peak in the pandemic. 

As of Friday, April 24, Ontario is reporting 13,519 cases of the novel coronavirus in the province. 

The province says 763 people have died of the disease, while another 7,087 have made full recoveries. 

The province says 910 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, with 243 being treated in intensive care units. The website says 193 patients are currently using ventilators. 

According to the website, 207,040 people have been tested for the virus and 5,414 possible cases are under investigation. The website says 12,295 tests have been completed in the last day. 

In Halton Region there are now a total of 470 COVID-19 cases (up 4 from Thursday’s report), with 415 confirmed cases and 55 probable cases.

There are currently 92 cases in Burlington, 153 in Oakville, 99 in Milton, and 124 in Halton Hills, and two cases pending further details.

19 deaths have been reported in Halton.

At this time, 217 cases have reportedly resulted in a recovery.

Among the total cases, 70 (15%) have been residents or patients associated with a confirmed institutional outbreak, and among the total deaths, 10 (53%) have been residents or patients associated with a confirmed institutional outbreak.

The region states that municipality counts may be inflated by outbreaks occurring in institutions located in their boundaries.

The province and region are continuing to update their numbers on a daily basis.
