In a recent media release, it was announced that the HDSB achieved the highest results ever in grade three reading and grade six reading and writing on EQAO assessments

According to a recent media release, the results released earlier in September by the Ontario Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) HDSB students, overall, performed above the provincial average based on assessments completed in the 2017-2018 school year.
The results show that HDSB students are well above the provincial standard (level three & four, or a B grade or above). In particular, the results in grade three reading, and grade six reading and writing are the highest ever achieved in the HDSB.
In grade three, the reading results show a percentage point increase from the previous year from 82 per cent to 83 per cent, eight percentage points above the provincial average of 75 per cent.
In grade six reading, results show an improvement to 88 per cent from 87 per cent in the previous year.
The provincial average for grade six reading is 82 per cent.
In grade six writing, students achieved 87 per cent – seven percentage points higher than the provincial average of 80 per cent, which is an improvement from the previous year’s grade six writing assessment by one per cent.
“We are very proud of the HDSB’s overall EQAO results,” David Boag, Associate Director for the Halton District School Board, said in a recent media release.
“We continue to achieve very high results in most areas and recognize the work of our staff in supporting student learning across the system.”
Although students in the HDSB continue to perform well above the provincial average, the board recognizes the need for improvements in mathematics.
