Halton Region has recorded its largest spike in COVID-19 cases in weeks, with Oakville accounting for almost half of the new cases today (Nov. 2).

Today Halton Public Health indicates 53 new cases across the region. Oakville has 23 new cases followed by Milton with 16, Burlington with eight and Halton Hills with six.

Despite today’s news, Ontario Premier Doug Ford said he is pleased that Halton Region has kept cases down compared to other areas of the province. He said he has no current plans to place further restrictions on gatherings and movement in the region such as those in Peel Region and Toronto.

“No,” said Ford when asked directly by inhalton.com if he has plans to change the current regulations in Halton. “They are doing really well out in Halton,” Ford told inhalton.com. “I find myself cheering these people on…the entire is cheering Halton on.”

There are currently 247 active cases in Halton with nine people hospitalized due to the coronavirus.

New information provided by the health department shows that highest case concentrations in the region since September have occurred in the River Oaks area of Oakville as well as south central Milton and east central Burlington.

Since the beginning of October, there have been 10 death recorded in the region at retirement and long-term care homes in Burlington and Oakville.
