A Halton police officer has pleaded guilty to breach of trust in a case involving drug thefts from the evidence vault.

Staff Sgt. Brad Murray, who’s been with Halton for 16 years, appeared in Milton court on April 23.
He’ll be sentenced June 7.
Murray was arrested on May 28, 2017, and charged with two counts of breach of trust, two counts of theft under, and one count of obstruct justice.

He’s only pleaded guiilty to one count — the remaining criminal charges will likely be withdrawn.
Charges stemmed from an internal audit and follow-up independent investigation into Halton’s drug vault anomalies which took place between August 2015 and April 2016.
Murray was arrested then suspended with pay, per the requirements of the Police Services Act (PSA).
He was investigated by Toronto Police and prosecuted by a Crown from outside of Halton “to ensure a fair and independent assessment of the evidence,” a Halton police news release reads.
Murray still faces internal disciplinary procedures under the PSA, said Police Chief Stephen Tanner.
“Staff Sgt. Murray remains suspended under the Police Services Act of Ontario, and that suspension is with pay,” he said, noting it’s the only suspension currently allowed under the PSA.
It may result in Murray being fired.
