Halton Police Charge Seven Individuals Believed To Be From South American Theft Group

The Halton Police, with the assistance of the Montreal Police, the York Regional Police, and the Canada Border Services Agency have teamed up to arrest seven individuals believed to be involved in a South American theft group.
The group is alleged to have participated in a residential break-in and shoplifting crime spree across the GTA.
The Montreal Police alerted the Halton Police in May 2019 of individuals that were going to be in the GTA area to break and enter residential buildings. During the investigation, the police believe the group broke into houses in Burlington, Oakville, Milton, Georgetown, and Pickering between May 5 and May 15.
On May 14, the Halton Police observed a group of individuals who entered the Tommy Hilfiger store at the Toronto Premium Outlet Mall. Within 15 minutes, the group exited the store with several shopping bags and fled the scene. Later, the police learned that the group stole over $1,300 worth of merchandise from the store.
On May 15, the police followed Ritchy Medel Cardenas and William Medel Perez to a residence in Pickering, where they observed the two males breaking into the residence. Both males were arrested and found to be in possession of property believed to have been taken from that residence. Police then executed two search warrants in North York and Mississauga to arrest the other five suspects.

Investigators are working to identify the origin of the recovered property. They believe around $150,000 worth of jewelry, watches, perfume/cologne and designer clothing was recovered.
The Halton Police are currently working with other police services to determine what other crimes this group has committed during this alleged crime spree.
The police have charged seven individuals.
Ritchy Medel Cardenas (22) of no fixed address was charged with:
- Seven counts of break and enter
- Theft – Under $5,000
- Possession of property obtained by crime – Over $5,000
- Eight counts of fail to comply with probation order
William Medel Perez (22) of Vaughan was charged with:
- Break and Enter
- Theft – Under $5,000
- Possession of property obtained by crime – Over $5,000
- Two counts of fail to comply with probation order
- Fail to comply with recognizance
Giancarlo Falquez-Marchan (23) of Vaughan was charged with:
- Theft – Under $5,000
- Possession of property obtained by crime – Over $5,000
Jessie Gosselin (30) of Laval, QC, was charged with:
- Theft – Under $5,000
- Possession of property obtained by crime – Over $5,000
- Fail to comply with probation order
Jefferson Pechon 9 (26) of Vaughan was charged with:
- Theft – Under $5,000
- Possession of property obtained by crime – Over $5,000
- Four counts of fail to comply with probation order
- Two counts of fail to comply with recognizance
Maximo Peralta Diaz (44) of Richmond Hill was charged with:
- Theft – Under $5,000
- Possession of property obtained by crime – Over $5,000
Rodolfo Severino Giraldo (29) of the Dominican Republic was charged with:
- Theft – Under $5,000
- Possession of property obtained by crime – Over $5,000
- Fail to comply with recognizance
All seven individuals were held in custody pending bail hearings.
Some of the arrested individuals have ties to Chile, Colombia, and the Dominican Republic. The Halton Regional Police is working hand in hand with the Canada Border Services Agency to determine their current status in Canada.
