Ontario Premier Doug Ford hinted at the possibility yesterday as the number of active cases in Halton grew to 223 and as those in neighbouring communities flow into the region to escape restrictions in Mississauga and Brampton.
The restrictions currently in place in Toronto, Peel Region and Ottawa, known as “Stage 2 light,” has shut indoor restaurants and gym facilities there, but remain open here. It could also affect weddings, funerals and other gatherings.
That could change as Ford mentioned the situation is “teetering” outside the restricted areas referring to both Halton and York Region.

Dr. Barbara Yaffe, Ontario’s associate chief medical officer of health, also acknowledged health officials are looking at Halton with concern and that recommendations will be made soon.
“We know numbers are going up, we don’t want this to keep going and we may have to take further measures,” she said.
Typically, Queen’s Park announces new measures for combating COVID-19 on Fridays and has a press conference scheduled for later today.
