Crime Prevention Week is being commemorated this week with Halton police showcasing five short videos.

Focusing on the service’s top priorities and how they affect the overall community safety and well-being of the residents in Halton, one new video is being uploaded each day this week.

“Here in Halton, we are really excited about taking crime prevention to a whole new level, integrating it into our community safety and well-being plan and working together in partnership with our citizens and our many stakeholders to truly become one team,” said Police Chief Steve Tanner.

The Halton model to community safety and well-being planning is designed to address community challenges through collaboration, prevention and proactive partnerships with community members from health, social services, housing, diversity and faith-based sectors.

Halton recently won an international award for its community policing approach.

The Crime Prevention Week videos feature partnerships that address and mitigate risks to ensure community safety and well-being.

The focus of the HRPS policing model has shifted towards a greater, regional approach to community mobilization.

This enhances the ability to serve the diverse needs of the community by developing programs with partners, say police, and focus on operational service delivery priorities: mental health and addictions, traffic safety, priority populations, and focus on crime.

Residents are encouraged to connect with police and share stories or ask crime prevention and community safety questions through Twitter using the hashtag #CPWeek2017.

This year’s theme is ‘building safer communities together.’

Anyone who may have witnessed or has information about a crime in Halton Region are encouraged to Crime Stoppers “See something, Hear something, Say something” at 1-800-222-8477(TIPS), through the web at http://www.haltoncrimestoppers.com or by texting “Tip201” with your message to 274637 (crimes).
