Challenge accepted? … A toy drive is being held across Oakville, Burlington, Milton, and Halton Hills this weekend as Halton police challenge residents to fill cruisers with gifts for children in need.

Nine Cram-A-Cruiser events are taking place across Halton Region on Saturday, Dec. 2 as part of the annual Toys for Tots toy drive.

The annual campaign kicked off Nov. 15 at Burlington Mall.

Police officers and volunteers will be accepting new unwrapped toys, cash, gift cards (which are great for teens) or Canadian Tire money for the Toys for Tots program.

Parents and caregivers can bring their children to meet officers and tour a police cruiser.

The Toys for Tots program raised more than $248,810 in toys, gift cards, cash and food for 4,350 local families in need in 2016.

In an effort to exceed last year’s record fundraising total, organizers of this year’s campaign are challenging residents to take Toys for Tots to your school, workplace, neighbourhood or organization (you can participate by collecting new, unwrapped toys, cash, gift cards for teens or Canadian Tire money).

Members of the public are invited to make donations until Sunday, Dec. 10.

Here’s a list of gift ideas for children and teens ages 10 to 16:
