COVID-19 outbreak declared at long-term care home in Burlington

A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at Maple Villa Long Term Care Centre in Burlington.
According to a statement from the centre’s administrator, the centre has been placed in outbreak precautions due to a staff member testing positive for the virus on Feb. 9, 2021.
“All residents will be tested for COVID-19 and the home will be cleared by Public Health once all test results are negative,” said the administrator’s statement.
Last month, Burlington MPP Jane McKenna announced that the Ontario government would be investing an additional $822,400 towards long-term care homes in Burlington amid the second wave of COVID-19 to help to increase prevention and containment efforts and reduce the risk of the virus from entering the homes.
Additionally, the funding would cover expenses including an immediate 24/7 health checkpoint to confirm staff and essential caregivers entering the building are properly screened for COVID-19 symptoms and potential exposure, continued screening of residents on an ongoing basis and the hiring of new staff to carry-out the added workload for essential services.
The announcement specified that Maple Villa Long Term Care Centre (93 beds) would be receiving an additional $45,600.
